Is it really true?! THIS weekend, we get to turn our clocks forward one hour (I promise not to whine about lack of sleep) and have extra daylight to enjoy being a Mama and get into shape! And, I just downloaded the MyFitnessPal app from iTunes to do just that. It helps you to count calories by simply taking a photo of the barcode (it has found even my wacky fave Granola!) and then adding it to the daily diary. You can track your water intake and your exercise. Today and tomorrow, I am just keeping track of everything without too much thought to see where my basic calorie number is and then I’ll go from there. My goal is to lose 10 pounds by Easter Sunday! Wouldn’t that be amazing?!
Speaking of Easter Sunday, it truly is right around the corner, so I thought I’d include the link to Martha Stewart’s Egg dyeing basics. We are going to try to do some fancy ones this year and the directions are really easy. When we get a bit closer, I’ll upload pics of our Easter eggs to my Pinterest page! Come follow me and stay in touch with the web’s most fun online pin board! We are already busy stuffing plastic eggs with jelly beans for the kids to find at our Easter weekend Spring Fling, so maybe I’ll post some pics of that, too!
I feel so fortunate to live in a neighborhood where the community is SO very strong. Just this weekend, a couple of Mom’s in my Mom’s Club, (Julie and Kelly, you girls are examples to live by!) organized a 5K Walk/Run to help a family dealing with the dreaded disease of cancer. So many local business’ came out to help and donate their time and business, it was unreal! Not to mention, the event was extremely well attended! Over 100 people helping, running/walking and simply being fantastic neighbors!
Just to name a few, DJ Wayne of Wayniac Entertainment providing fun and fabulous music, Balloonucopia, who provided the starting/finishing line of gorgeous balloons, Bread and Butter, a local coffee/bread/yummy treats place brought coffee and made homemade donuts on the spot, T Shirts by Bill Bokelman, Beyond the Rocks, who helped with set up and keeps our
community looking gorgeous, (thanks Abe!), water was donated by Trader Joe’s, and myself and my fabulous curvy girls, Dangerous Curves sang the National Anthem to start off the walk/run! We even did the walk with my Little Man sometimes riding in the jog stroller and sometimes running with Lisa. Everything went so well, that it may become an annual event! Dontcha’ love that? Why not organize your own neighborhood 5K and raise money for a local cause or family? This whole thing started with two ladies who have big hearts and a late-night texting session. What better way to celebrate the rejuvenation of Spring and the beauty of Easter, than an act of benevolence?
Benjamin Franklin pointed out that, “The U.S. Constitution doesn’t guarantee happiness, only the pursuit of it. You have to catch up to it yourself.”
